I first started working on Warmup 2.0 in 2006 when I was High Performance manager for the Australian Sapphires our under 21 national team.
My goal was simple. I wanted our team to go away to the 2007 World championships with the best basketball specific warmup in the world so that we could win every warmup and be on the front foot before the game had even started. I also wanted a warmup that made our athletes just a little more athletic every time they performed it and stopped the carry through of tightness that I saw affect the performance of so many athletes in tournament scenarios.
To achieve this we developed a warmup that combined foam rolling (which was unheard of at the time) a targeted pinch of static stretching and a comprehensive dynamic/movement skill component that helped refine our athletes running, jumping and change of direction skills.
So click the link below. Skim through the top part of the page (it is a bit wordy and needs a trim!) and get stuck into the full routine in the right order!
You will be doing the dynamic movement component as a group at the start of every BV session but to truly unlock the power or Warmup 2.0 you have to put in the work on the rolling and stretching both prior to and after every sports session you do!
Good luck and remember to lean into the rolling but ease into the stretching! We are requesting flexibility not demanding it! Stretching only works went done gently!
